KOA Collaborates with LADOT to Prioritize Student Safety at Young Oak Kim Academy Middle School

Recently, our KOA colleagues collaborated with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) to implement a Quick Build Project on Shatto Place within the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles, prioritizing the enhancement of student safety at Young Oak Kim Academy Middle School. This project incorporated practical features like curb extensions, median railing, and parklets alongside artistic installations, all designed to foster a safer and more vibrant community environment. KOA collaborated with the school community to involve students in the planning and execution of the project, integrating artistic curb extensions and asphalt art. These elements are designed to remain in place for a temporary period of 1-4 years until permanent funding is secured. Throughout this duration, KOA will collaborate with LADOT to gather data and assess the project’s success using predefined metrics.

At Lochner and our family of companies, community involvement is embedded in our core values. This project’s community-centric approach has captured significant media attention, underscoring the importance of collaboration within our neighborhoods. This project not only enhances student safety but also fosters a sense of local pride, paving the way for future community-driven initiatives.

Congratulations to all involved in the success of this project!
