606 Bloomingdale Trail & Park Rehabilitation Project Wins Award

The 606 Bloomingdale Trail and Park Rehabilitation project, which extends from Ridgeway Ave. to Ashland Ave., in Chicago, Illinois, is the recipient of one of the eight 2016 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) national Grand Awards for Engineering Excellence. Prior to this recognition, the project received the ACEC Illinois Honor Award in the Special Projects category.

For this Chicago Department of Transportation project, Lochner provided construction engineering and inspection services for all structural and major civil work associated with the construction of a new 2.7-mile trail conversion along a disused elevated rail line in a densely populated area, with remit to reuse as much construction debris as possible. Lochner oversaw the reconstruction or significant rehabilitation of 37 bridges, the construction of a new tied-arch signature structure, the reconstruction of 36 pairs of retaining walls, and the new construction of 14 retaining walls, seven park entrances with ADA-compliant ramps, two small amphitheaters, and several scenic overlooks. ACEC’s annual Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) competition pays tribute to exemplary Member Firm achievements from throughout the world. Projects are rated on the basis of uniqueness and innovative applications; future value to the engineering profession; perception by the public; social, economic, and sustainable development considerations; complexity; and successful fulfillment of client/owner’s needs, including schedule and budget. Award winners will be recognized at this year’s ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards Gala on Tuesday, April 19th in Washington D.C.
